I know that the presidential election is 11 months off, but please bear with me. Any time gay issues are brought up, the candidates seem to skirt the issue. It's all about civil unions and non marriage. "America's not ready for gay marriage!" "Separate but equal" (WTF really? Yes, Obama is a separatist....). But in all, I think that the candidates being accused of pandering is a bit ridiculous. I mean really, they have to appeal to the majority of the people, and since some 78% of the general population do not support gay marriage, it seems kind of silly to be catering to the 22% of gay-supporting population. But I think in generations to come--the age bracket of 18-22 currently have a 44% support of gay marriage--gay rights will be more and more acceptable. Let's hope it's not sooner than later.
I tried to find a good video on this subject specifically for the democratic candidates, but found none. I'm sure we'll be seeing more and more as Hillary is way ahead in the polls (ew!). Of course all the republican candidates are anti-gay marriage and some like Romney are against even civil unions...we'll have to work on all those closet cases, but that's another story...
